Weather Report went on tour following the release of Mr. Gone, first performing through Europe, Japan and South America. In late 1978, the band hit the U.S. and it was from this time that the recordings for 8:30 took place. Most of the album comes from a single show performed on November 24th, 1978 in Long Beach California. Jaco's famous "Slang" solo can be found on this release.
