I saw Weather Report at the Hordern Pavillion in Sydney in 1978(?) Every musician in town was there. The boss at our gig at the Hampden Court, a club in Kings Cross, let us start later that night, just so we could go see them.Jaco had been setting the town alight for a few nights already, jamming at clubs and blowing everyone away. Our singer spoke with him the night before we went to see him play. She didn't know who he was, so Jaco told her he was the best bass player in the world (he was kidding around. She replied "Oh? What about Stanley Clarke?" He thought that was very cool.

After the concert, he just turned up at our gig, with Peter Erskine. I got to play at least 30 minutes with him. We played "Keep Your Eye On The Sparrow"; "Shaky Ground" and some Stevie, I think. Tommy Emmanuel was there and he sat in too. Playing with him on stage was an amazing experience which I have treasured my whole life.

Vale Jaco. I hear your music everywhere . . .
