Has anyone seen the article in BP this month about the bass of doom being found? This is absolutely amazing to me. I really am floored! On the cover was Randy Jackson. Don't get me wrong, I like RJ, but the bass of doom being found should have been on the cover. This is huge! WOW! I can't wait to hear it being played on a recording, which I feel is inevitable. What an amazing event!

I was just thinking, it would be something to hear a solo album by Felix Pastorius using the bass of doom.

I respectfully disagree. What good is it as a museum piece? I can see the bass of doom just as well in a magazine or an old picture as well as I can in a museum. But, to hear it in action after so many year - now that would be worth it!

I read the current Bass Player magazine article regarding Jaco’s bass finding. The restored Jazz Fender bass was tested by Bailey, Lee and Wooten. They were amazed with the instrument sound. They indicated that the string action was close to the fingerboard and made comments about the neck. Back in December 1984, I considered the action to be high and the neck awkward compared to my G&L. http://jpbasslessons.com/images/Jaco4.jpg The sound was awesome! I invite you to try a G&L fretless bass with Rotosound strings and you will be surprised how close is to Jaco’s sound. Lastly, I would it prefer to see Jaco’s broken bass in a glass display than transformed to the way it looks now. Many blessings to all fellow bassists.

Honestly, I'd have preferred the bass to have stayed lost. I'm not a big fan of the way it looks now, it far too closely resembles a Fender Jazz 24, or Victor Bailey model. Even though there are pictures of Jaco holding it, for me its not the Bass Of Doom.

I'm also wondering why the person who has obviously been hiding this bass since it was stolen from Jaco has now decided to come forward. Nothing can change the fact that its a stolen instrument, it should be returned to Jaco's family.

Is the bass at 30th street guitar in NY?
I understand theres a legal procedure going on of the actual ownership of BOD. Is that right?
