| Anyone know what's happened to Bass Player magazine recently? They don't answer my emails and I can't get through by phone. I wanted to subscribe as they're the only bass mag in the world I can find for a reasonable cost. Any ideas please? |

Can you not subscribe on the Internet?
if you have an issue already just send in the insert.
P.S. You should check out Bass Guitar Magazine too. It's a british magazine i think. I've been buying the last couple of issues. They have some good stuff, but i'm not sure how much it cost.

| Bass PLayer Mag went downhill awhile back. I cancelled my sub. They seemed to glorify some bass players cause they ran out of stuff to write about the other ones. You can only put Victor Wooten and Les Claypool on the cover so many times and then you have to make guys like Gene Simmons and that goof in Blink 147 look good somehow. It ain't easy either. HA - I'M BACK!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!! |

Really? I don't think so at all. This past year they've covered Ron Brown, Ron Carter and Dave Holland as well as the most comprehensive discussion on strings I've seen. Sure you're going to get an occasional misfit but they have to keep everyone happy. |

yeah, sometimes it's a good bassist, and sometimes it's Mike Dirnt.
a couple of things they need to add are
1. Transcriptions of GOOD!!! songs every month. 2. Posters of the Bassist that's featured on the cover(how cool would it be to have a Marcus Miller poster?!?!) 3. A CD every once in a while. They have only done it once, but it was a damn good CD.
But just to clarify, i love the magazine and look forward to it every month. Even if it's a bad cover article, they always have something else that i'll like.

| I guess publishing a bass magazine wouldn't be easy and it would be hard to be fresh all the time. I think (with me) it was a combination of things. The gear reviews seemed to be of amps and guitars I would never buy - but then again I know I just can't lump it all together in one pile cause someone can come back with a counterpoint. The Mag just wasn't doing it for me. I was starting to get into Bassics (CD comes with issue) and that was great. I haven't seen that one for awhile and then again I haven't been looking. I just may be a bit opinionated about my bass rags. |

They are starting to get better trascriptions but that's a hard one too because of style, taste, etc. of each reader. I liked the Day Tripper transcription a few months back. I'd like to see more standards done as well as fusion & rock classics.
Posters??? This isn't Teen Beat!!! Seems a bit puerile.
A CD is too expensive to do but I'd settle for a better FTP site that you can download featured tunes with analysis. Mix magazine does this as well as EM and it works great.
I agree that the reviews need to be bit more forcused on everyday gear but how many times can you review a Fender American Jazz? On the other hand, those $5000 exotic wood bass reviews I tend to skip right over. I'd like to see more portable gear reviews like the Tascam BT1 or the portable multi-trackers...even high-end cables and tuners. That stuff adds up quick on your wallet. |

I don't care what anyone says, I want a POSTER!!
they had an Ampeg poster one month. It had about 40+ bassist on it, from Victor Wooten and Steve Bailey to Gene Simmons and Fieldy. I guess they ran out of good bassists, but i still put it up on my wall.

| Somebody must have been listening to our gripes because the latest BP issue has portable gear reviews, a Freddie Freeloader transcription and a POSTER (although it might be the same one you mentioned). It looks they redesigned the whole mag too. Very cool... |

I subscribed to Bass Player mag like 2 months ago and never got any magazine. I'm not too happy about that. They took my money and all I got was the issue I bought in a store with Nicky Sixx on the cover, a pretty crappy issue too. Myabe the post office screwed up.

I think your talking about the magazine "Bass Guitar". It's pretty new. But i think "Bass Player" is better.
