Firstly Bob, thanks for somehow having the insight to document the early development of the world's greatest bass player.

I haven't actually purchased POJ yet, it is on my "absolutely must-have" list, I'm just a bit dubious about ordering CDs from overseas. I've tried to locate a copy here in the UK, but no-one seems to be carrying it.

Is there anything on the horizon about UK stores carrying the collection? If I didn't have internet access, I wouldn't know about POJ, so there's probably a large contingent of Jaco fans who don't know about it, but I'm pretty sure it would shift more than a few units over here if they were just present in the shops.

Thanks in advance for replying.

OH yes- is it true you can only order POJ from one place? Also -I don't have credit cards and that makes it messed up trying to get it online. It would be great to have all the good Jaco stuff down at the record shop. I would have bought it all by now on top of what I allready have purchased. Every time I go to look for Jaco recordings- it's the same stuff I allready have- then I get on here and read about all the Rockplast etc.- but you have to purchase with a card and wait on the mail. That's a load. Personally (and there may be others) I can't quite get into the "buy everything on line" deal. I wonder why that is? Do I need to get the crowbar out and fix it?

Eddie,

Unfortunately there isn't a way to purchase POJ in stores in the UK right now. But if you still have concerns after reading this, I will send you one.

When I made the decision to include classic recordings of Jaco from his solo album, tracks with Joni Mitchell, two samples from Weather Report, one with "Little Beaver," and a couple with Herbie Hancock, I knew it was going to be very unlikely that I was going to be able to acquire the necessary license agreements for the normal channels of distribution that service music stores world wide.

Also when considering all the growing costs, and all the royalties and custom work for manufacturing it started to become a very unorthodox project price point wise as well.

Looking back now, I was actually very lucky to get all the cooperation that I did from Warner's and Sony to be able to produce such a unique piece exactly the way I envisioned it. It is not easy to get license agreements from major labels. Of course, the only downside being that the distribution was limited to direct mail order.

I will say that since POJ has come out, I am getting indication from the powers to be that maybe things will be different in the future.

With that said, I agree with eviofla. I would not be the least bit concerned about purchasing POJ over the Internet. If credit cards are a problem, CDBaby.com takes checks, cash, money orders etc.. I think they also take pay pal. There is even a 1 (800) number listed on their site, so you can order by phone if you want.

One more point I would like to share. I wrote a short paragraph on the thread titled "What's Coming" indicating that I was planning to release a "music only" version of POJ that would be available in stores worldwide. Considering the lack of response I am wondering if this is such a great idea after all.

Rsears is correct. POJ really needs to be in the stores in order to get the sales it deserves.

BB

Eddie, If you want, you can write me using the feedback link on JacoTheEarlyYears.com Thanks.

Bob, thanks for the offer, I'll definitely be in touch with you once things get back to normal around here.

As for the "music only" version of POJ, I personally think it is a fantastic idea. As an introduction to Mr P's life and works (besides the already available stuff), I think it would be great. Its not everyone who wants to listen to an audio documentary I guess, so if you give people the option, it can only spead the word further and wider.

I'm also looking forward to future releases from yourselves. If POJ is anything to go by, I'm sure Jaco would be very proud indeed of the way Holiday Park is handling his legacy.

Bring it on! It's a great, late timed idea and I'd be all over it!

Hey Eddie G.,

Tell me, were you able to get your hands on a copy of "Portrait of Jaco" yet? Be honest!

I'm looking forward to your response.

Just a line on overseas internet purchases . . .I'm in Australia and have limited selection on clothes, CD's, basses etc etc. I'm originally from the UK so am used to a good range but expensive prices.
I have bought 2 basses and countless Cd's from the US over the last few years. POJ arrived within a week of ordering. A Vic Wooten book about the same timing and with very helpful vendors both.
Thing is, there are so many Americans you can have 1% of the marketplace and be rich. Other countries you'd go broke. So Americans get everything at half price compared to the rest of us.
Point then . . even if the UK shops did stock POJ it'd probably cost 30-50% more than the US version including shipping. Just buy it.
