I don't know what to say, I don't know if I should be laughing or dissapointed.
even though he's a great drummer, I don't believe that he's got the metal in his soul. |

WELL.......! Did you listen to the mp3 samples.... Vinnie is a great musician, and this proves that you (like Jaco said) should keep an open mind about things (music). Play everything and learn from it.
If I were an painter, I would not be happy if all I painted was landscape pictures.

I never said he's not a great musician;
He's so great that he can play anything you want, even Medadeth.
The capability and talent to do that has nothing to do with the soul and feelings behind the notes.
Let's see, have you ever heard Neil Peart 's swing?
Yes, he can play everything perfect, everything on it's place;
And it might sound right, but If you listen to the same piece played by, for example, Tony Williams, then you'll understand why both of them dedicate full on in one style.
Yes, we can learn from all music, I love all music, but I know that I was born to play certain styles of music, even though I really have studied all the theory about other genres,we have to be mature enough as musicians, to understand this matter and apply it to our musical attitude.
In the end, Vinnie Colaiuta plays anything you want first, because he plays for money, and I'm saying this in words of experience, I've done sessions with him and he plays for business.
Second, he has such tremendous technical resources that allow him to do that.
So yes, he can pretend to be a metal drummer, but he was still working to earn his living.
That stuff I heard was everything but credible. |

Nah Vinnie Colaiutah Rules, and so do Megadeth.
Those samples are great! Too bad there are at least 15 metal albums I'd rather get lol

It's like Laurence Cottle with Black Sabbath (but it DID happen).
These cats are so good and versatile, they could play with ANYBODY!
That cat that plays guitar with Paul McCartney.....Rusty Anderson....anyway....I read a great interview with him because he has been in so many diversified settings.......he even created the famous guitar riff in Ricky Martin's "Livin' LaVida Loca".....The cat will never be out of work.....

I like Colaiuta and Megadeth. Although, wasn't Colaiuta one of the only members of Zappa's band to get fired by Zappa? This due to demands for more money. Just wondering? Great cd, the new Megadeth, though!

Zappa also said (something like)... that polyrhythms were pointless if you couldn't play theme right or your time was not ROCK STEADY... and he said that Vinnie would take the GRAND PRIZE in that (playing them well.. ) category of all the drummer that had played with him ..
